Diabetic foot

Diabetic foot is considered as one of the most serious and common complication for uncontrolled diabetics, as even small or insignificant foot cuts or problem can turn to something serious

 What causes diabetic Foot?

-          poor blood circulation (damage in blood vessels)

-          problems in the nerves (neuropathy) which might lead to loss of sensation for hot and cold

-          any foot ulcers that might result from cuts warts or even not wearing the right shoes

-          high level of blood glucose

·          What are the risk factors of diabetic foot?

·         Previous amputation

·         Recurrent foot ulcers specially if it deeps and resches to bone or for a duration more than 30 days

·         Having a chronic condition for more than 10 years (heart diseases, blood vessel disease

·         Being older than 40 years old

·         Smoking

·         Having uncontrolled blood glucose levels

·         Poor feet hygiene & inability of taking a good care of your feet

·         Peripheral neuropathy

Signs and symptoms of diabetic foot

-          Problem in sensation

-          Feeling of hotness or coldness of the foot

-          Being imbalance when the patient is standing or walking

-          Recurrent foot pain

-          Recurrent wounds

-          White areas on the foot due to foot immersing in the water

Diabetic foot complications:

May leads to gangrene and foot amputations if not treated or if you delay the treatment

Diabetic foot  infection prevention?

1-    inspect your feet on daily basis look for cuts blisters any skin changes

2-    always inspect in between your toes

3-    if you have a problem in your vision ask a family member

4-    Wash your feet in daily basis with warm water and soap and dry them well especially between your toes.

5-    avoid using very hot or very cold water

6-    use the right nail cutter and cut your toenails and avoid having sharp edges

7-    massage your feet and legs every now and then

8-    don't use chemicals to treat warts

9-    use moisturizer

10- don't you ever walk barefoot

11- wear the right shoes in the matter of size and shape

12- wear cotton socks

13- don't set near heat or cold sources for long period of time

14- maintain normal blood glucose reading
